舍生求道有前蹤,乞腦剜身結願重。
大去便應欺粟顆,小來兼可隱針鋒。
蚌胎未滿思新桂,琥珀初成憶舊松。
若信貝多真實語,三生同聽一樓鐘。

捨棄生命以求大道,早有前人施腦剜身的例子,皆以此結下深重的願力,堅定不移。佛法廣大,須彌納芥子,大世界如粟般包容;針尖之微,亦可容諸佛。修行未成,如蚌胎尚未圓滿,自然思慕新月桂影;即使已成琥珀,仍不忘前身松脂。若真信佛陀所說的真實語,三世輪迴中,皆能聽聞同一樓鐘之聲。
向佛之路有跡可循,為求佛法甘願捨命,肝腦塗地,在所不惜。萬物皆如此:今生思及來世,又憶著前生。前世、今生、來世,其實不過刹那輪回。當一個人沉溺於世間物象太久,靜聽梵音經貝,如醍醐灌頂。寂夜裡悠遠虛渺的鐘聲,喚醒夢中之人,三生緣會,一夕修成。
李商隱此詩借用大量佛經故事(乞腦、剜身、芥子須彌、針尖容佛)與自然意象(蚌胎、琥珀),題於僧院牆壁,表面讚頌僧侶的獻身精神與佛法奧妙,實則寄託他對人生的感慨與對解脫的嚮往。
They cast off
life to seek the Way—predecessors' tracks remain.
They begged with brains, gouged flesh from bodies, vows profound and firm.
Viewed vast, a
millet grain deceives the cosmos entire;
Seen small, the world conceals itself within a needle's tip.
The pearl in
oyster's womb, not full, yearns for the new moon's cassia;
Amber newly formed recalls the ancient pine it once was.
If we believe
the true words etched on palm-leaf scriptures,
In one toll of the temple bell, three lives resound as one.
